A downloadable game for Windows

Submission for Bigmode Game Jam 2023

You play as a robotic gunslinging detective with but a single processing core to spare, only able to do one task at a time. Switch between detective modes to solve mysteries with your brain and crimes with your gun

Gamepads are supported, but in-game text and icons only apply to keyboard & mouse

  • Left mouse button/right trigger to shoot
  • Tab/left shoulder button to show inventory
  • Right mouse button/right shoulder button to change detective mode
  • Space/south gamepad button to use current detective mode ability
  • Right joystick to aim on a gamepad

Known bugs:

  • Trying to open the iron lock in the saloon basement without a key locks the game up. Ironic? You decide
  • Some interactable objects and NPCs can be interacted with long after they're gone. You may think this is a bug but it's actually ghosts

Blew my mind, amazing game, definitely worth a play, and definitely worth further development.

10/10 (5/5) would blow up mech hillbilly's again.

On a real note, I love the humor of this game, and I genuinely would love this in full.

Though, there is one critical bug, when clicking space in some areas, interactions still occur, and if you're in the wrong mode, they freeze the whole control scheme and force you to restart.

Dang, thanks for reporting in (and for the nice words). I think I have the bug figured out, but just to double check, do you remember which part of the game that happened in?

Or if you have the time, could you check the log from %localappdata%low\Scrawny\Single Core Detective? I'd wager there's a NullReferenceException in there, about 20 rows from the top. If so, the next line should read something like "at DialogueManager.StartDialogue blah blah", that would help me out a bunch

It happened in the cell the most, both when inspecting the lock and retrieving the bottle without having shot down the lights, but it happened at other moments too just when pressing space in Detective mode.

The log seems to have been overwritten by the run where I finished the game.

Alright, I have a pretty solid idea what the problem is based on all that. Appreciate the help, and sorry for the trouble

Np, don't apologize, have a good one!
